June Ipsy "Pretty in Paradise" Bag Review

I've never been the type to sign up for those subscription boxes but I have been intrigued by Ipsy. There's something about watching YouTube video tutorials and reading beauty blogs that got me antsy about trying Ipsy for myself. It's a pretty good deal - at only $10 you typically receive 4-6 beauty products. After what seemed like years (it was only a few weeks) the June "Pretty in Paradise" bag arrived in my mailbox. I could not have received a better bag to review as my first bag!

Firstly, how adorable is this bag?! It's designed by Rebecca Minkoff and so on trend with the pineapple fabric. Is it just me, or are pineapples everywhere this season? It's a good quality bag and the perfect size to carry around in my purse.

Wedding Emergency Kit

*Thanks to U by Kotex Pads and Linqia for sponsoring today's discussion.*

It's funny to think of my younger sisters getting married - not because I didn't think that they would, but because baby sisters, by definition, are never old enough to get married. Both of my younger sisters are getting married. During the same weekend. In about a month. They're also 20 year old twins. Yes, you are reading this right. I'll just let all of this sink in for a moment...

Dealing two bridezillas bride-to-be's can be pretty difficult. Double the crafting, double the attitude, double the money, hair, make up…and double the chance of an emergency to occur. While they are busy dealing with the difficulties of taste testing cakes and picking out flowers, I'm thinking of everything that could go wrong. Chapped lips, a snag in the wedding dress from a freshly broken nail, a migraine…or worse - Aunt Flo sends her monthly gift. I pray to god that if this happens, it happens to a bridesmaid and not a bride-to-be.

The good news is that big sis can deal with emergencies because she is always prepared for anything. I've taken it upon myself to have any potential wedding emergencies solved with just simply opening a jar. Since the first wedding of the two is rustic themed, I figured what better than wedding emergency essentials placed inside a timeless mason jar?

From blisters from painful heels to paper cuts from wedding cards, Band-Aids are bound to come in handy at weddings.

Wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses are delicate creations. Straps could break or a hem could rip in the blink of an eye, which is why I make sure to keep safety pins, thread, needles, and mini scissors close by.

If someone in the wedding party breaks a nail, there is a chance that a dress could be snagged! I'll be keeping those snags at bay with nail clippers and a nail file.

After a long outdoor photo session, it'll be time to refresh the lotion and deodorant. No smelly wedding party here!

No one wants to kiss someone with chapped lips and smelly breath! Make sure to bring travel tooth brushes, tooth paste, mouth wash, and chapstick to keep this emergency away. *Pro Tip: use the tooth brush to exfoliate your lips!

Weddings always make me cry. There is something so beautiful about two people tying the knot and spending the rest of  their lives together. I can only imagine the emotions a bride may feel leading up to her walk down the aisle. Hopefully, the bride will at least remember to wear waterproof mascara. Either way, I'll have Kleenex tissues close by.

Lastly, I pray that we don't have to deal with this emergency but hey, you can't refuse mother nature's beautiful red gift. No bridesmaid dresses (or white gowns) will be damaged because I also packed a few U by Kotex®  Clean Wear pads with 3D Capture Core. It's a one-of-a-kind pad that locks away liquid to help stop leaks which makes it the most reliable feminine product for the upcoming weddings.

Now, YOU can receive FREE samples of U by Kotex's awesome (and stylish…if feminine products could be stylish) Clean Wear pads with 3D Capture Core! Who doesn't love free stuff? Sign up to get your FREE sample!

What else would you put in this wedding emergency kit?

Wedding Ready: Silky Smooth Legs & Scallop Nail Design Tutorial

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser. #CollectiveBias #MySummerLook

Do you ever plan for a big event, like a vacation, but a bunch of other events pop up around the same time? I feel like this happens to me all too frequently. 10 days ago, not only did I pack for vacation in Boston, but also had to pack for a wedding and Shane's #OHBlogger Meet Up, all of which require me to have silky smooth legs. Additionally, I had to pack a month's worth of clothing and such as I'll be in Ohio helping my mom prepare for my sister's wedding after the Boston vacation.

With all the packing that had to be done, things were bound to be left behind and forgotten. Half way through the road trip from West Virginia to Ohio I realized I forgot to paint my nails and toes, and to make matters even worse I also left my nail polish collection back in the good ol' mountain state. I thought to myself, "it's ok, no one will notice…" I then realized I also forgot to shave during my pre-road-trip shower…and left my razor hanging in the shower. While I could get away with prickly legs for the wedding, I had to have silky smooth legs for vacation. Halfway through the road trip, I made Christian take a detour to the nearest Target.

Christian gave me 10 minutes to quickly grab everything I needed. After sprinting around the store, I grabbed my shower time favorites: Schlick Hydro Silk Sensitive Care® razor and Skintimate® Skin Therapy Sensitive Skin shaving gel. The wedding was outdoors so I also picked up Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen for good measure. Not only will this keep the sun's rays from burning my porcelain skin, but it also smells fantastic!

Since I was already in the beauty beacon, I figured I might as well pick out a nail polish. Well, I didn't just grab one polish. I practically emptied out Target's Sally Hansen inventory and took home three polishes, a top coat, cuticle oil, nail file, clippers, and a nail art kit. Go big or go home, right? There wasn't even an option to resist all the pretty colors!

Complete Salon Manicure Polishes: "Mojito," "Lady Lavender," and "At First Blush"

Once I arrived at our final destination, I gave my nails a pretty makeover inspired by one of my favorite trends - scallops! Sally Hansen's products made this design so simple. I thought about doing the scallop design on all of my nails, but wanted a more subtle nail look for the wedding. I only painted the accent nail with this design.

Scallop Nail Design Tutorial

Start off with completely clean nails. I painted two coats of Sally Hansen Salon Complete Manicure in "At First Blush," allowing it to dry completely between coats. The great thing about these polishes is that the formula includes a base coat, top coat, and dries fairly quickly!

Once the paint was completely dry, I carefully applied the scallop stencil from Sally Hansen's I love Nail Art Tool Kit. After the stencil was secure, I painted Sally Hansen Salon Complete Manicure in "Lady Lavender"above the stencil.

After the polish was dry, I carefully removed the stencil. I placed a drop of Sally Hansen Salon Complete Manicure in "Mojito" on a piece of paper. I then used the stripling brush to outline the scallops with the beautiful pastel green shade.

To complete the look, I used Sally Hansen's Big Matte Top Coat. Matte seems to be having a moment in the beauty world, so why not on my nails too?! I think this nail design looked great with my wedding attire.

Raspberry Chocolate Ganache Pie

There are some food combinations that are just meant to be. Chips and salsa. Macaroni and cheese. Peanut butter and jelly. Spaghetti and meatballs. Chocolate and raspberries. All of those are wonderful comfort foods but there is nothing better then fresh raspberries paired with chocolate.

Recently, I finally made an investment and purchased my first DSLR camera! I've been saving up money from sponsored posts for a while now and I figured it was time to start taking The Darling Daily more seriously, especially with the recent rebrand! When it finally arrived in the mail, I was ecstatic to start working on my newfound photography skills. A new camera calls for celebrations which to me means making a delicious chocolate raspberry ganache pie. Don't worry if you're not this generation's Betty Crocker. This recipe was so easy to make! However, I can't promise the same for your attempts to not drool on your computer while you look at these pie photos...

Of course I'm not good enough to create my own recipes quite yet so I gotta give credit where it is due. This wonderful recipe was created by Kraft Foods. Here's what you'll need:

2 packages (4 oz. each) semi-sweet chocolate, broken into pieces (I used Baker's)
1 cup whipping cream
6 tablespoons raspberry jam, divided
1 Oreo pie crust
2 cups fresh raspberries
1 tablespoon water

Microwave chocolate and cream on high for 2 minutes until chocolate is almost melted, stirring after each minute (make sure to use a microwavable bowl). Beat with whisk until chocolate is completely melted and mixture is well blended. Stir in 2 tablespoons of raspberry jam.

Pour the mixture into the Oreo pie crust and chill in the refrigerator for 4 hours.

Once pie is set, arrange the raspberries on top of the pie. Microwave the remaining jam and water for 30 seconds. Stir until well blended. Brush the jam onto the berries.

Serve and enjoy!

What's your favorite food combination?

#OHBloggers & #BloggersTakeBoston Recap

Being bloggers, many of our interactions with each other are online. I love connecting with new bloggers and chatting with these phenomenal ladies about anything and everything. The support in the blogging community is incomparable. With that said, I jump at every chance to meet these darling ladies in person.

I was so excited when I found out Shane and Holly were planning the #OHBloggers meet up! Many of my favorite blogs are produced in the great buckeye state. Rachael, Margaret and I carpooled to Zauber Brewing Company in Columbus and were quickly joined by 25 gorgeous bloggers. It was a blast networking and talking to these like-minded women about our passions and goals for our blogs. (Photos compliments of Shane).

Thanks to the HerCampus Blogger Network, I've been able to connect with amazing collegiate-aged bloggers. When I found out Annaliese lived near the Boston area, I made sure to schedule a meet up during my stay! I've been a fan of Annaliese's blog, Southern Belle in Training, since we both joined the HCBN last year. If you've been a reader for a long time, you might remember her guest post from last summer, "Why You Should Dress Up For Class." Annaliese is just as adorable and bubbly in person as she is on her blog. Also joining us were Katie from Inkspot who is so outgoing and friendly and my little sister Brittney who writes a fitness blog called Inspirella.

This was a relaxed meet up as we met in the Boston Commons Park. We walked around the park,  chatted about blogging, and took many photos including OOTD photos, of course. Finally, we ended up at the Cheesecake Factory for dinner and were joined by fellow HCBNer Ingrid from Smilingrid

How could we pass up the swan boats in the park?!

My Birthday Wish #DarlingsPayItForward

With my birthday about a week away, friends and family have been asking me about my birthday wish list. Sure there are things that I would like to have (I'm talking to you, Naked 3 palette) but there isn't anything more that I need. I just really want to spend my first post-grad summer with old friends, family, and new friends. After all, it is the wonderful people in my life that keep me going, not things.

This year I turn the ripe age of 23. Instead of collecting more things, I would rather spread kindness. The best gifts you can give someone, in my opinion, are those from the heart - a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and encouraging words. While I encourage you to pay it forward and spread goodwill everyday of your life, I want to hear your stories about how someone has helped you and how you've "paid it forward." I'm committing to do 23 acts of kindness on my birthday and I would love for you to join me.  So, consider this your formal invitation to the biggest party of the year!

Join in on the Facebook event and invite your friends! The more the merrier! I look forward to seeing your tweets, updates, photos, etc with #DarlingsPayItForward!

How will you pay it forward, Darling?

Ashliegh

Easy Beach Make Up

While I'm enjoying some beach time on the islands near Boston, Briana from Royally Pink is taking over the blog today. She'll be showing us how to get an easy natural and smear-free beach make up look just in time for the first day of summer on Saturday!

-----

With summertime comes summer heat and the heat means one thing--beach days! The beach is the perfect place to relax, unwind and spend some time alone or with your friends. There are few things that people dislike about beach days spent tanning and in the water; how can you possibly be in a bad mood at the beach?

Knowing what to wear to the beach is easy: a bikini, flip flops and a fabulous cover up. Throw in a baseball hat, sunglasses and some sun screen and you've got it all down pat.

There is though, something difficult that comes along with going to the beach and that's what to put on your face. I, like many other ladies out there, really don't like to leave the house without some sort of makeup on. I might sound superficial but some girls just love wearing makeup everyday.

Knowing what kind of makeup to wear to the beach is very tricky. You can't be overdone because you'll look silly and you don't want to wear something that you wear everyday or that will be smear down your face in the heat and water.

There are a few simple products that could help make your beach makeup natural and smear free.

1. BB Cream: Wearing a light weight BB cream to the beach is the perfect solution to those foundation heads. If you simply cannot leave the house without foundation, wearing BB Cream is the next best thing. It has all the wants of a foundation but with added moisturizer and SPF. Most BB Creams don't have a thick consistency but still hold up against the heat. My favorite BB Creams are the Urban Decay Naked BB Cream and the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream.

2. Waterproof Eyeliner and Mascara: I think if you're going to go bare face at the beach, a simple dash of eyeliner and mascara can really make your face look put together. The dangerous part of this is that you need to make sure that the products are waterproof otherwise you'll look like a raccoon. I haven't found an eyeliner that lives up to their waterproof name but Benefit's BadGal Waterproof Mascara stands the testament of time. I brought it on Spring Break with me and it was the best mascara for the beach, pool, and humid weather.

3. Lip Balm/Lip Conditioner: You need to hydrate your lips when you're in the sun. Finding a lip balm with SPF and a strong conditioning feeling is important. To complete the "makeup" look, get a tinted lip balm that has all the benefits of SPF and moisture. I like the Nivea Tinted Lip Balms or my personal favorite, Maybelline Baby Lips.

4. Blotting Papers: These are the essential for all types of summer fun. Bringing along oil blotting papers will be a lifesaver to your makeup and your skin. When you start to sweat or your skin starts to get a little oily, these will absorb all the oil from your skin and refresh your face. Pair this with a water mist and you'll be good to go. My favorite blotting papers are the ones from Clean and Clear; I've been using them ever since I was 13 years old and they work every time.

What are your favorite beach makeup items?

10 Reasons why you should be high (on heels, standards, and pearls)

One of my favorite things about being a blogger is the connections and friendships created through the blogosphere. Erica from Coming Up Roses is one of those budding friendships. She's been one of my sponsors for a few months now and I absolutely admire her and her blog. She is so well-spoken and I always leave her blog feeling so inspired! While I'm doing some summer traveling, I hope that you will get to know this lovely blogger, starting with this post!

-------

I’ve always felt this innate connection to Ashliegh from her byline alone. I mean, this girl knows what’s up. “High heels, high standards, pearls everyday.” Truth, truth, and more truth. And even more, I like to think of that last little tidbit as being a double entendre for you, as you carry on with your classy life. As silly as it might sound, you’re a pearl in this oyster otherwise known as life, and it’s high time that your summer be as perfect as a freshwater gem. I firmly believe that all of the above “highs” surpass any other.

I love heels, I love standards, I love pearls, and I love lists. So, here are 10 reasons why heels, standards, and pearls should always be at the top of your list for summer (and always).

Post-Grad Life: On Transitions

Graduation was about a month ago and I have to be completely honest, this transition period is completely out of my element.

Since I wasn't one of the lucky few to land a job before or right after graduation, I've been doing some after-school babysitting. It's not much but it's something. One of the kids just had his last day of 5th grade, meaning that he "graduates" from intermediate school and will be moving up to middle school in the fall. This school district has multiple middle schools and high schools in the area. Once the students complete intermediate school they go to a middle school closer to their home.

This newly graduated fifth-grader was visibly melancholy upon his arrival home. Knowing it was his last day of school, and seeing the delight and relief of his siblings, I asked him why he wasn't excited that his summer had finally kicked off. In response, he said "I'm moving to a different middle school than my friends next year. I might never see them again. What if I don't make new friends? It's just a weird transition."

Kid, I know exactly how you feel.

The past month has definitely been a weird transition. I've always been the independent type so the post-grad life is exciting to me, but the idea of making new friends and figuring out what to do with my life come fall is a bit vexing at the moment…especially as many of my friends getting their lives together.

Christian's going to law school…Rachael is going to China…Meg is going to France…Joni got her dream job…and I'm just stuck. Now don't me wrong, I am ecstatic for my friends and their wonderful achievements. I'm so excited to see their dreams come true and to be able to celebrate with them.

I just never imagined the job hunt being such a struggle, or not knowing what I want to do with my life. I would like to consider myself a "Jane of all trades." I'm talented in many areas but not the best at any single anything. I love the thought of working in PR…or marketing…or event planning…or journalism…or fashion…or…or...

Life is full of uncertainty, and change. It seems to me that this uncertainty is waiting around every corner in throughout our lives. From the uncertainty of finding friends after the fifth grade, to the uncertainty of finding a way to prosper in the world after college we are all faced with amazing challenges. I can only hope that whatever challenge I may face, it will prepare me for more to come.

There are so many directions in which life may take me in the fall. It's a bit terrifying. I have no idea what the future holds for me, but what I do know is that I will not settle for mediocrity.

What challenges are you facing?

With Love,
Ashliegh

Beach Essentials

Summer is finally here and we all know what that means! Beach time! While I don't have any set plans for beach time quite yet, it's never a bad idea to be prepared for when the opportunity arrises. During the summer, I keep my beach tote and swimsuit close at hand so if a road trip to the beach or swim time at a pool comes up, I'm always prepared. Here are my essentials!
