Gingham & Scallops

Blazer: BooHoo // Dress: BooHoo // Necklace ℅ Jewlr // Earrings: Versona Accessories // Wedges: Guess (old)

What could possibly be better than pairing scallops and gingham together? Personally, I think it's a match made in heaven! The dress and blazer are just a few more of the items I received from the BooHoo giveaway I won earlier this month (see more of my BooHoo style here). With this scallop blazer, I also purchased matching shorts to create a short suit. I'm having a difficult time styling it though because I can't seem to find an appropriate shirt to wear under the blazer. Any ideas?

From the peach color and the summery fabrics and prints, I guess you could say I'm holding on to every last bit of summer! While I love my riding boots and puffy vests, I don't want the warm summer weather to leave just yet!

I'm SUPER excited about this necklace! Last summer, I received an acrylic block monogram necklace as a gift and have been craving to add a metal script monogram necklace to the collection. The opportunity presented itself when Jewlr reached out to me!

I was able to fully customize my necklace on their website and experience their superb customer service  and timeliness firsthand. I chose the gorgeous medium size monogram necklace in silver (though it looks gold on my Instagram) and it only took three weeks to create and mail my order! Pretty impressive for customized monogram jewelry! The packaging was adorable and it even came with a certificate of authenticity, which I thought was a nice touch.

Jewlr offers free worldwide shipping and free resizing on North American orders. They also offer a 99 day return policy, in case your order didn't come out how you wanted. They offer a HUGE selection of women's and men's jewelry including pendants, celtic rings, infinity rings, and engagement rings.

How do you style monogram necklaces?

How to: Big Voluminous Healthy Hair

This post is sponsored by Global Influence Network on behalf of Walmart and Tresemme.

Maybe it's the pageant girl in me but I love voluminous hair! I'm always envious of those stars who manage to have big, beautiful hair on the red carpet. Unfortunately, I have fine hair that can often look limp unless I heat style it. We all know what happens when you use heat on your hair too often. Split. Ends. Thankfully, I have Tresemme's Split Remedy Leave-In Conditioner to help keep my hair looking healthy and voluminous. Check out how I style my hair to feel like one of the stars!

Step 1: After showering, I apply Tresemme's Split Remedy Leave-In Conditioner to the ends of my hair.

Step 2: Blow dry! I maximize the volume by blow drying my hair upside down. While my hair is flipped over, I gently pull the roots towards the floor. Gently! Once the roots are mostly dry, I flip my head right side up and then blow dry my hair to one side. Once the roots are dry on that side, I hit the "cool" button on my dryer to "freeze" the volume. Then I repeat to the other side of my hair.

Step 3: Utilize hot curlers! I. LOVE. HOT CURLERS. I apply my largest curlers to the top section of my hair and the medium and small curlers around the rest of my head. I prefer curlers that come with metal holders rather than plastic clips. These ensure I don't get any dents in my hair while the curlers cool! After all of my hair is in curlers, I'll spray on a layer of Tresemme Firm Control Hairspray.

Step 4: Once the curlers are completely cool, remove the curlers. If I want maximum volume, I'll tease the top sections and the sections framing my face. Just use your fingers to gently tousle hair and shape the curls. Vava voom! Red carpet ready hair!

Walmart and Tresemme have teamed up to bring you gorgeous hair this awards season! You can find more information and styling videos here!

5 Tips for Getting Things Done (Even if You're a Procrastinator)

Hey darlings! I've been M.I.A. this week trying to get things done (getting a bed stuck in a stairwell, check!). Thankfully, Caitlyn from ChemGradBoom is here to give some advice on how to get things done. I'm infamous for the stunts I've pulled from being a procrastinator (10 page research paper in 8 hours. And received the highest grade in the class for that very paper. Score!). Where were these tips when I needed them in college?!

Hey everyone! Can I just take a moment to say how excited I am to be taking over The Darling Daily today? Huge thank you to Ashliegh! Now onto introductions, my name is Caitlyn and I blog over at ChemGradBoom - a blog about my life as a chemistry graduate student (sounds boring, I know) but it's not, I promise! I just got back from Indianapolis where I worked at a museum analyzing artwork, space junk and some other awesome stuff. Now I'm back in NC writing my thesis and planning my next  adventure in Scotland! Oh yeah, most exciting news ever (for me anyways), I'm off to Scotland for my Ph.D. where I get to travel around, visit castles and work with stained glass windows! Told you it wasn't boring! Enough about me though, on to the post!

I happen to be the world's best procrastinator and have recently been working on breaking this special talent. It's hard though, I have 6+ years of experience with procrastinating, but this year I said I would put a stop to that and made a goal to change my ways! With this new goal, I had to reevaluate the way I work to make me to stay out of blogland and Pinterest long enough to get things done! Here are my 5 tips for getting things done (even if your a procrastinator)!

1. Figure out what works for you. This may not be a new tip, but really figure out the place/situation/environment where you can sit down and really work. For me it involves Harry Potter movies, lots of coffee, and having absolutely everything that I could need in one spot (aka my living room floor). This took me 3+ years to figure out, but once I discovered this method I could suddenly focus on the things that were important rather than the things that distract me.

2. Make a list of the 'Top 3 things that need to be done today/tomorrow/before the week is over'. There is always something that needs to be done ASAP, for example this Guest Post for me was #1 on my list. I then make sure to look at the things that I can finish up tomorrow and lastly I set things that need to be done by the end of the week. This method makes me aware of exactly what needs to be done and what can wait, which helps me to avoid wasting time on things that are not as urgent!

3. Make a list, mark things off, and reward yourself! I always forget things, even when I have it written down in a planner, they seem to slip my mind. I now make weekly to-do list with all the important things in a notebook that goes EVERYWHERE with me. Once I complete a task, I make sure to cross it off the list and reward myself.  The reward makes me more productive even though I usually just head off to Starbucks for a coffee or take a Netflix break!

4. Work with someone. Grab a buddy that also has a to-do list as long as you and work side-by-side. Yes there is a chance for distractions, but you both can also encourage/call each other out to get things done. Having someone there to help motivate you to finish up things before getting distracted is a great way to complete your work.

5. Take a break. All of us have hit the moment where we just stare at the desk/computer/assignment and nothing is getting done. Hitting the brick wall can either ruin the rest of the time that you have to do work or you can take a break/refresh and come back to it without wasting more time. I know that I always seem to have moments like this, so I just walk away for 30 minutes, distract myself and come back when I think I am ready.

Well there you have it - the things that have taken me 6 years to halfway master when it comes to getting work done. I know that everyone out there has a different method that helps them get work done, these are just the ways that work for me. Please share if you have tips that work for you, especially you (former) procrastinators out there!

August Ipsy Bag Review

I do have to admit, this was not my favorite Ipsy bag of products. I don't want to complain too much through because the past two bags I've received were amazing. This month's theme was "beauty schooled" so the case was in a pencil case shape. It is adorable but I prefer the cloth bags rather than the plastic. This bag will come in handy carrying pens, pencils, and other miscellaneous items though. Now on to the products...

Absolute You're the Balm in Green Apple - This was the only full size item I received this month. The smell of this lip balm is delicious. I wish I could say the same for the formula. It felt greasy to me and felt like it slipped off of my face and onto surrounding areas.

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer - I've only used this primer once so far and liked it. It kept my makeup in place but I didn't really notice any difference in my pore size. I'll have to give it a few more tries before making any judgements on this product!

Coastal Scents Forever Blush - This is the tiniest blush sample I think I've ever received. The colors are gorgeous; however, since the sample is so small, it is difficult to get the powder evenly onto a brush. I think the full size of this product is only $7 so I may just purchase it to test it out instead of using this sample.

Lord & Berry Silk Kajal Kohl Eye Pencil - I don't use stick eyeliners. Instead, I use gel eyeliners or dark eyeshadow applied with a thin brush.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara - I was so excited to try this mascara. I. Love. Mascara. This one adds nice volume and applied clump-free. I didn't see too much of a difference in length or curl of my lashes. It's a nice everyday mascara. Not sure if I'll invest the money on this one but I still love Urban Decay.

If you're interested in trying out Ipsy for yourself, I would love for you to use my referral link here (I don't get any money for you signing up, just some points which eventually add up to free makeup).

Are you subscribed to any boxes like Ipsy?

Making Healthy Choices Throughout a Day in My Life

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #BalanceRewards #CollectiveBias

Making healthy choices from the beginning to end of the day can be difficult. I find that making those choices early in the day can set me up for success and it's all about finding the right balance. My days can be hectic and there really isn't a set schedule. I always love hearing how other bloggers and people spend their days so I figured I should show you a day in my life, though every day is totally different! Let's begin

On this particular day that I was documenting, I woke up around 9 am. I usually end up laying in bed for about 20 minutes trying to motivate myself to get out of bed. But it's so cozy. Darn you bed. Eventually I get up and shower.

After showering, I blow dry my hair and I knew today was going to be a lot of chores around the house and yard so I didn't bother doing anything too fancy. This Revlon CC Cream that I picked up from Walgreens is basically a lifesaver for days like today. It has SPF included so it protects my skin while I'm outside and gives just enough color to even my skin tone out. There is also a coupon for my local Walgreens on the Paperless Coupons app! Health isn't just about food and fitness. It can also apply to taking care of our skin. Applying sunscreen is a daily habit!

Next, it's time to get dirty (why did I even bother with showering this morning?). Today's to do list included moving my sister's bed to her and her husband's new home. Well, my brother and I couldn't find the right tools to take the frame apart so we decided to try to take it downstairs anyways. Well, as you can see, it was 1) quite a workout (who knew cleaning could provide an intense workout. #healthychoices!) and 2) our plan didn't work and it got stuck in the stairwell. #facepalm. Eventually, we managed to wedge it out and move it to it's new location.

Finally, it was time for lunch. My brother, his best friend and I met up with my dad at Subway for lunch. I always go for the honey oat bread with turkey and pepperjack cheese and a glass of water. I somehow convinced myself that no, I don't need that fresh baked, gooey, chocolate chip cookie. Don't ask me how I managed to walk away from those babies.

After lunch I work on blog stuff like scheduling posts and social media until dinner. Nothing really eventful here.

After dinner I always go on a walk with my mom! We have a towpath that goes right through our town so it's always very scenic and beautiful. I always enjoy watching for wildlife that may be happening on the path. In the early summer, you can find baby ducklings walking with the momma bird, and the other day an adorable groundhog walked right in front of us!

My mom is also trying to make healthier choices so I love helping her with her health goals by motivating her to go on our daily walk. She works more than full-time so it can be hard for her to come home and want to exercise after a long day at work.

Thankfully, I'm there to support her and make sure we make our step goals with our Fitbit! We then sync the Fitbit to our Walgreens Balance Rewards for healthy choices app! This app allows us to track progress, make goals, and enter daily activities. While we're making healthy choices, we're also able to score Balance Rewards to help us save on future Walgreens purchases! Pretty cool!

After our walk, it's usually a pretty chill evening filled with Netflix and watching shows with the family. My current favorite show to binge watch is Gossip Girl!

How do you fit in healthy choices throughout the day?

My friends are starting a business involving frozen alcoholic popsicles! They've reached 20% of their goal on their crowd funding campaign! Check out what Shotsicles is all about and donate to a startup!

So, I have to be honest. I'm a T.Swift hater. Only because I think she's a sell out. However, I do like her personal style and her new song "Shake it off." WHY YOU SO CATCHY?! I feel like she is totally relatable in this video with her awkward dance moves and such, too. So, I have to be honest. I'm not a T.Swift hater anymore. The tweaking has gotta go #DontBeMiley (though I do enjoy Miley's music, too).

While a lot of older people give our generation a lot of slack, I believe we had a lot of redeemable qualities, too! Ashley's list is spot on with the characteristics of our millennial generation!

5 Tips for Landing the Job After (or During!) College

Something completely exciting is happening today, Darlings! Today, I am moving to Sandusky to start a job at a hotel in Cedar Point! For the next 10 weeks, I'll be working for reservations and as a front desk clerk. I'm so excited for this opportunity and hope that it helps me save money so I can start traveling by January! While I've finally landed a job and am moving (again…I told you, I'm a nomad), one of my blogging friends Jenn from Hellorigby! will be sharing her expertise in how to land your job!

Hi The Darling Daily readers! I'm Jenn, and I blog over at hellorigby! It happens to be named after my cute dog, Rigby, and I share some of his antics and bits and pieces of our life in Seattle. You can also look forward to seeing fashion, beauty, and what I'm reading too!

If you recognize me, you may already know that I'm no longer a college student. But just a few years ago, I was graduating and job hunting, and it made me crazy. I mean, it's really not a pleasant process. You get rejected, or you just never hear back. No one likes that, right? So I thought I'd share with you how I landed a career job just a week after I graduated from my university. If I can do it, so can you!

My Day Off Makeup Look with Neutrogrena

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias #AllDayLook

While I love everything about makeup, somedays I just don't want to get all dolled up completely but I don't want to go completely makeup free. I still want to look polished, even on my day off. When I first started playing with makeup when I was younger, Neutrogena was my go-to brand. Well, as I discovered the wonderful world of beauty I started playing with lots of different makeup and looks. I'm finally returning to my roots for my day off makeup that lasts all day and falling back in love with Neutrogena's products!

How to Make Money in College

Being a college student can be expensive, even outside of paying tuition! I was financially independent from my parents throughout my entire collegiate experience. I had to pay for tuition, sorority dues, food, rent, trips, and other various things on my own. I was extremely involved on my campus so I had a lot of expenses. This experience required me to get creative when it came to making money. If you're a broke college student, I hope that you'll find this post helpful as I share many of the ways I made money while in college (some are extreme and bizarre)!

Day to Night: Pleated Maxi Dress

When I purchased this mint pleated maxi dress at the beginning of summer, I had no idea how to wear it! Little did I know it would be so versatile with many of the other pieces in my wardrobe. The maxi itself looks dressy so I'm constantly trying to find ways to make it daytime appropriate. Throwing a sleeveless chambray shirt over top was the easiest way to do so. It also made it easy to transform into a night look with just a scarf and quick change of jewelry.

10 Most Forgotten Dorm Room Essentials

Thanks to Kleenex & Walmart for sponsoring today's discussion. All opinions are my own.

As many of my friends are gearing up to head back to college, my recent post-grad status has forced me into a deep reflection period. I find myself longing to shop for school supplies at my local Walmart and thinking of ways to decorate my college dorm room. I remember moving into my freshman dorm room. I packed practically everything I owned to move into that 10'x10' concrete box.

While I thought I was prepared, I found after unpacking that I wasn't prepared for the challenges brought on by college dorm rooms. It was sweltering hot that first month as my university didn't supply air conditioning to the dorms, the cafeteria food made my stomach turn and my posters wouldn't stick to the concrete walls with sticky tack! Ahh, the woes of college. I hope that you'll learn from my mistakes and not forget these 10 college essentials when packing for college this month!

Power Strip - Dorm rooms are very limited when it comes to electrical outlets! One of these babies will be your saving grace! There's enough outlets to plug in your laptop to keep the music going, charge your phones, and plug in your curling iron and straightener when you're getting ready to go out with your girlfriends!

Command Hooks & Strips - I learned pretty quickly that tape and sticky tack just do not help when it comes to hanging posters and frames onto concrete brick walls! Command Hooks and Strips will help you keep your posters hanging all year round.

Bed Risers - Dorm rooms are basically small boxes. Create more vertical space with bed risers! With these, I was able to gain enough space to place my mini fridge under my bed.

Over-Door Mirror - Many dorms don't come with mirrors. Be prepared to bring your own unless you want to get ready with the other hundred girls on your dorm floor in the communal bathroom (ew).

Shower Caddy - Speaking of communal bathrooms, don't forget to bring a shower caddy! Place all of your hygiene products in one of these for easy transportation down the hall. Don't be that girl who carries all of her shower products in her arms down the all to the bathroom in her robe. The results of trying to pull a stunt like that can lead to major embarrassment. Not that I would have any experience with that...

Ibuprofen - Whether it's a migraine from your loud dorm mates or from lack of sleep from studying, make sure to keep some form of headache medicine around!

Quick tip: do not take Tylenol if you've had a fun night out with alcohol present. The chemicals do not mix well and could cause major damage to your liver. Don't take it when you wake up the next day either. Stick to aspirin or ibuprofen. Also, drink responsibly.

Fan - I'm not sure if your school provides air conditioning to it's dorms but I know Ashland University did not. Those dorm rooms become unbearably hot during the first month of school since it's still the summer season. Students at AU often duct taped their box fans to the windows to create air flow!

Tums - Dorm food and cafeteria food aren't always the most healthy options. Enough said.

Memory Stick - Don't be the student who can't turn in a paper because their laptop crashed. Always make sure to back up your papers and files frequently!

Kleenex Expressions Oval Facial Tissue - Whether it's a makeup spill as you're getting ready for a girls night out or a breakdown from the stress of finals week, Kleenex has your back! Their new Expressions Oval Facial Tissues come in adorable chevron prints that will kick your dorm decor up a notch!

The Kleenex Expressions Oval Facial Tissues chevron designs can be found in the back to School, Back to College or tissue aisles at your local Walmart Supercenter!

Here is my  desk from my freshman year (wow, things certainly have changed)! If only the chevron oval facial tissues existed back then! They would have looked so cute on the top shelf with my flowers, don't you think? *Goes back in time and places a box on my shelf.* Much better… :p

Dress: Target // Chambray: Old // Necklace: ℅ Armed & Readi // Shoes: Keds

When I found this tee shirt dress on sale at Target, I knew it would become an instant classic in my wardrobe. Wednesday Confessions (+Giveaway)

…I normally don't do these sorts of posts, as you probably know but today I wanted to do something different. A few of these bullet points may be a bit heavy, especially considering I don't like to open up about this kind of stuff on the blog. Here goes nothing I guess...

…I've been binge watching How I Met Your Mother on Netflix and just found out the 9th season isn't on there. I WANT TO MEET THE MOTHER, NETFLIX. I'M DYING OVER HERE.

…Amiee's wedding was a dry wedding. But not for me! I made sure to bring this nifty little do-dad called a flask. I also kept a bottle of whiskey out in the truck. Just imagine this: the mother of the bride, the bride, and me taking shots straight from the handle on the bed of a truck. I can't make this stuff up.

…This weekend was Amiee and Brittney's weddings, but you already know that. What you don't know is that I also experienced my first funeral of my lovely great aunt. I'm not entirely sure how I'm supposed to deal with death yet and I'm kinda freaking out.

…To make matters worse (though better for the future?), Christian and I also broke up. After 2.5 years together, I definitely learned a lot from him and about relationships. It was a mutual and calm break up but it's hard to deal with not seeing my (former) best friend everyday.

…I purchased the most adorable short suit and cannot wait for the pictures to be live on the blog tomorrow!

…I'm meeting Chloe, one of my blogging besties, today!

…I'm moving back home for the first time in 5 years. I'm completely terrified as I don't have any friends in my hometown anymore.

…Also, not entirely sure what I'm doing with my life. I really want to travel so I'm looking for jobs in Australia or even au pairing in Europe. The only thing holding me back is money and the fact that student loan payments are coming up in November. Do I follow my dreams and travel the world making minimal money or start my career and pay off my loans with the dream of living abroad never to be heard of again? Advice welcome on traveling/living abroad with no money and paying off student loans...

…I'm feeling quite uninspired to write right now. I have a bajillion and one blog topics listed out on paper but I don't feel like writing about any of them right now. Here's an awesome Lilly Pulitzer giveaway that Dylan and I teamed up to bring you! Enter to win a Lilly Pulitzer planner and stationary set in the Rafflecopter below.

How to be the Best Bridesmaid (+Giveaway!)

Thank you to VersaSpa for sponsoring today's discussion.

This past weekend both of my younger sisters became married women! It was a crazy, insane, fun-filled weekend and thankfully, there were no wedding emergencies! Amiee celebrated her wedding on Saturday and Brittney's nuptials were Monday morning. If there's one thing I took away from this weekend was to really consider who you select as your bridesmaids, especially your Maid of Honor. They can make or break your big day! With a young bride, comes young bridesmaids who may not know what is involved in their newfound duties! Here are just a few things to do to help you be the best bridesmaid you can be!

Show up! Show up to as many of the pre-wedding events as possible. These events are important to your bride and she chose you to be there with her! Also, don't bail out early on the events that are important to the bride…like setting up the church for the wedding, the bachelorette party, bridal shower, engagement party, rehearsal dinner, wedding, and reception. Unless you have extenuating circumstances, you should be at all of these events!

Be positive. A lot of things can go wrong leading up to the wedding and on the big day! Your positivity will be appreciated by the bride as she goes into fight or flight mode over the details of the day!

Offer to help. Some brides, like my sisters, wanted to completely DIY their weddings. There are lots of centerpieces, crafts, and various events to create and plan! Utilize any special skills you have to contribute to team bride! I ended up taking photos of everyone getting ready, crafting some decor, and doing hair and makeup!

In my natural habitat doing hair and makeup

Look good. The big day has arrived and you will appear in a billion and one photos. The bride will most likely be making a scrapbook of some sorts so she can reminisce on her day in years to come. Do your best to look your best for those pictures. The bride is doing hair and makeup trial runs leading up to the wedding and you should be to! Find the makeup that looks great on you and the hairstyle that works for your hair type. Bonus points if you get your nails done and head to your local tanning spa to get a spray tan!

For Amiee's wedding, all of her bridesmaids have a gorgeous tan glow. Then there was pasty-white me. To ensure I didn't appear ghost-like in Amiee's bridal party photos, I headed to my local Tan Pro USA to try out the VersaSpa spray tanning system.

I found it super easy to use as it had a guide inside the room on how to pose and when! At first, the color looks a bit splotchy but then evened out as the day went on. The only complaint I had was I wish I knew to apply A LOT of the barrier cream to the palms of my hands. I had applied it to my knees, ankles, wrists, and hands. While my knees and ankles turned out even in color, my palms and wrists absorbed it all and were so ridiculously tan. Thankfully, I my pageant experiences have taught me how to deal with these sorts of mishaps!

TIP: If you get streaks or too much color on your body when using a spray tan or self-tanner, apply lemon juice to a cotton ball. Rub the cotton ball on the area you need to fix. Wah-la! Problem solved!

July Ipsy Glam Bag Review

I received my first Ipsy Bag last month and that bag was awesome. I was so excited for July's bag to appear on my doorstep! This month's theme is "Sensationally Sunkissed." I love the pink scalloped bag the products came in and it's become a staple in my purse.

Here are the products I received this month:

Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Beach Spray, sample size - I received a beach spray in last month's bag so I'm not sure why they thought I would need another. I love Sexy Hair's products and this spray smells delicious. It definitely makes my hair feel softer but I'm not so sure it does anything in the styling department for my hair.

Bare Minerals 5 in 1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow, sample size - I love the Bare Minerals brand but I'm not a huge fan of cream eyeshadows. This one is a nice natural color and the added benefits of sunscreen seem interesting. When I swatched it on the back of my hand I found it difficult to blend but I'll give this product some more use before I judge it too much.

Pop Beauty Sunkissed Bronzer, full size - I've never heard of Pop Beauty before but I love a good bronzer! This one is shimmery and soft. I haven't used it yet but I think I'll definitely enjoy this product.

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm, sample size - This little lip balm is packed with pigment! I was pleasantly surprised by that. It also has a light wintergreen mint scent which I love. This balm is moisturizing and I see myself purchasing the full size eventually.

Hang Ten Dark Tanning Oil, sample size - I don't tan and I cannot stand laying out. I'll be passing this sample on to one of my sisters or a friend to enjoy!
