Mount Vernon

Dress: J.Crew Factory // Sandals: Old // Bag: Kohls // Earrings: Kohls // Necklace: Old // Belt: American Eagle // Nail Polish: Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure "Lady Lavender"

Recently, Christian and I made the trip down to Mount Vernon, the home of America's First President George Washington. It was amazing to see the grounds where President Washington resided and learn more about his life. Christian had completed his senior thesis on George Washington and his contributions to the founding of the United States. Christian had won Best Senior Thesis so it made sense to celebrate his accomplishments in the home of the man he wrote about.

The home was filled with interesting inventions, such as the chair fan. If you've ever been to Mount Vernon you would know what I'm talking about. If you haven't made the trip to this beautiful location, well, you'll need to go to find out what the chair fan is. It's pretty hard to describe and I wasn't allowed to take photos inside the house, unfortunately. Just know that it's pretty innovative for their time.

Finds out good ol' George was quite the botanist, amongst other things. The gardens were my favorite part of the house grounds. There were two gardens, as well as orchards and farming fields. the gardens were absolutely stunning and filled with gorgeous flowers. Fortunately, I remembered to bring my new DSLR so I took the opportunity to practice my photography skills. What do you think of these floral shots?

Have you ever been to Mount Vernon? What is your favorite historical place?

With Love,
Ashliegh

  1. I LOVE visiting Mount Vernon. The first time I went with my family, I was in second grade. I brought along a note pad to jot down information...because I've been a nerd my whole life, especially when it comes to history.

Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia is amazing, as well. It's like the Walt Disney World of historical sites.

  5. I visited a couple of summer ago while I was interning in DC and loved it. The thing I remember the most is how fabulous the view was from the back of the house. I would kill to have that as the view out my back door! I love visiting historical places; it's so interesting to see something in person that you learned about in school. When I was in elementary school my family visited Plymouth and it's still one of my all time favorite vacations

  10. I like your outfit and your pictures :) I have not been to Mount Vernon. The one historical place I have been many times in the Flagler Museum here is south Florida. It is such a beautiful home and has a lot of lovely scenery. I enjoy visiting historical places, especially when I know or learn the story behind it.
