Dream Closet Makeover

In the words of Carrie Bradshaw, I like my money right where I can see it - in my closet. I recently moved away from my college apartment, and, unfortunately, wasn't able to bring my large work space and desk with me. At my new place of residence, I don't really have an area where I could set up a space to work…except for my exceptionally large walk-in closet.

After seeing that Cupcakes and Cashmere's home office housed a rack of clothing, I was inspired to  my create my dream work space…with my clothes (because why work if I can't see where my money goes ;p). My clothes weren't taking up very much space in the closet, why waste valuable real estate? I love that my closet has a large window so I believed this would be a prime opportunity to make this little space my own.

Now I have an office in my closet. This is seriously my dream closet! I'm surrounded by things that inspire me the most - fashion, make up, and a great view!

If the Shorts Fit Buy Them in Every Color

Blouse: New York & Company
Shorts: New York & Company (Shorts are currently buy one get one free!)
Scarf: New York & Company (On sale for $10!)
Sunglasses: New York & Company
Earrings: Kohl's
Sandals: Jack Rogers via Neiman Marcus Last Call

The saying goes that if the shoe fits, buy one in every color. While they aren't shoes, I own the same exact item in pink, brown, and black. Yes, I am completely in love with New York & Company's City Crepe Soft Shorts! They are so ridiculously comfortable and have a fabulous fit! The back part of the waist band is elastic so it creates the perfect fit to my waist. There is no gap like my other shorts and jeans. I styled the brown pair here and can't wait to style my black pair.

Right now, NY&C is having a buy one get one free sale on all of their shorts - good news for you and bad news for my wallet!

What sales are you shopping right now (or what sales did you shop this past weekend)?

Spring Beauty Favorites

A new store opened near my hometown a few months ago. I've been loyal to Sephora but have to travel about an hour to get to the nearest one. During last week's shopping trip, my mom and I finally decided to enter this mysterious store - Ulta.

I thought I had died and gone to beauty blogger heaven! Not only does Ulta carry luxury makeup brands, but also drugstore brands, too! It's my new favorite one-stop-shop for all things hair, skin, and make up!

During that first trip to Ulta, I may or may not have spent too much money. I went a little cray, but how  could you not in that fabulous building!? While I picked up a lot of stuff from Ulta, I also had Walmart coupons and went a little wild there, too. While my bank account hates me, my face and hair are loving the extra attention. My makeup collection has probably tripled doubled this season! Here are ten of the items that I've picked up this spring!

Pantene Dry Shampoo, Original Fresh ($7.99) - I've been on the hunt for the perfect dry shampoo and I've tried a lot of different brands. Alas, I had a coupon for Pantene's dry shampoo and fell in love. It refreshes my hair after a work out and doesn't leave a weird feeling residue on my blonde locks.

Rimmel Scandaleyes RetroGlam Mascara ($5.99) - I'm a mascara maven. If I could only have one beauty product for the rest of my life, it would be mascara. This love for mascara definitely shows as I have 8 different mascaras in my collection. I picked this one up from Ulta and it is my new favorite! It leaves volumous and long lashes clump-free. It's also really easy to remove with eye make up remover (my person favorite is Mary Kay's Eye Makeup Remover).

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette ($28) - My IRL blogging bestie, Rachael, has the Naked 3 Palette and every time I go to her place, you bet I ask to play with it (sorry, Rach)! While I haven't had the opportunity to invest in the Naked 3 palette (my birthday is in July if anyone was wondering...hint hint...), I finally invested in the Naked Basics Palette. This palette features 6 gorgeous matte eyeshadows. Since purchasing this, my other eyeshadows have been feeling neglected. I'm in love.

NYX Butter Gloss, Creme Brûlée ($4.99) - With a cult following, I've read and heard so many good things about the NYX Butter Glosses so its finally time I gave it a try. New favorite lipgloss. It lives up to its name as it is buttery soft! These glosses also smell fantastic and come in so many gorgeous colors. Right now, the NYX brand is buy one get one 50% off at Ulta and I'm about to purchase the whole collection.

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer ($6.69) - I bought this product on a whim earlier in the season. If I remember correctly, I had forgotten my usual E.L.F. primer at home during a pageant weekend and had my mom run to the store to pick one up for me. Good pick, mom!

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation, Ivory ($4.99) - I received this foundation in the #UniVoxBox from Influenster and have not stopped using it! I love how this makes my skin look and it goes on so easy. While it does have a matte finish, it doesn't leave my skin looking dry.

E.L.F. Blush Palette ($6) - In late winter, I purchased a huge haul from E.L.F. and also received a gift card with that haul. I used that gift card to purchase this palette amongst many other items. The blushes are gorgeous! They are very pigmented and good quality, too. I only need to dab my cheek brush onto the color once because they're so pigmented. I've been using the light pink shade the most right now and plan to use the other shades during the summer since they have a bronzy summer look.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer, Light ($8.99) - Again, after playing with Rachael's makeup, I knew I needed to add this concealer to my collection. I use this on top of my foundation as a concealer and also a highlighter! The sponge applicator makes application a breeze (and clean)!

Pro Tip: To hide your under eye dark circles and bags do not just slide your concealer along the edge of your lower eyelid. Instead, create a triangle by dabbing concealer along the side of your cheeck where it meets your nose then towards the outer corner of your eye. Fill in the triangle and blend.

Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Enamel, Pink Pineapple ($5.99) - These smell so delicious! My nails smelled like pineapple for 3 days after an at-home manicure. I gotta get me more of this polish!

NYX BB Cream, Nude ($12.99) - I bought this on a whim during my trip to Ulta. I've never been a fan of BB Creams as they never provide the coverage that I need and typically leave my skin feeling like an oily mess. This one is different as it's my BB cream soulmate. It leaves a dewy (not oily!) finish and also gives medium coverage!

What are your beauty favorites from this spring? What products do you recommend for summer?

With Love,

College Life: Lessons Learned

On Saturday, I graduated from Ashland University. I'm completely excited and overwhelmed by what the next chapter will hold. I know I should say something on this blog to wrap up my collegiate career but I'm not sure what the words are to wrap up the past four years I have just experienced.

I've been thinking about doing a cliche "insert-some-number-here Things I Learned in College" type post. I feel that the things that I've learned are kind of common sense but the experiences I've had with each have really allowed the lessons to sink in. While I learned a lot of important information and not so important information (I'm talking to you, Intro to Astronomy and Human Antiquity!), the two biggest lessons I've learned, were not learned in a classroom.

Lesson #1: People have different priorities.

This one is obvious but through experience has definitely sunk in. Everyone is created differently and has their own unique set of values, standards, and priorities. While one thing may be important to me, it might not hold the same resonance with someone else. I especially learned this through being a member and holding executive leadership positions in my sorority. For example, I may take 24 credit hours in one semester but I still manage to complete over 50 hours of community service because service to others is chief among my greatest priorities. I may not have achieved a 4.0 GPA, but that doesn't mean I don't value knowledge. On the other hand, there may be a girl who takes 15 credit hours but prioritizes getting a 4.0 over completing service hours. Just because she heavily prioritizes her GPA, doesn't mean that she doesn't value community service. This was a big one for me as it leads me to lesson #2...

Lesson #2: How to motivate others.

Learning to motivate those who may have different priorities to complete one goal is difficult. I learned this during my time as VP of Member Recruitment for my sorority. With over 90 women in the sorority, many of whom may not completely understand or care for recruitment outside of simply receiving new sisters, it is a difficult position in motivating others. With the assistance of the recruitment department, I learned to motivate other sisters to care for the small details in conversation and presentation while also keeping a high morale within the chapter, even though these women may have other priorities such as homework, other student organizations, etc.

In high school, I wasn't heavily involved in a lot of student organizations. In college, I was heavily involved in a wide variety of student organizations. The biggest takeaway of college was how to be a leader. Leadership isn't necessarily the highest position or the loudest voice, rather it is those relationships we form with others.

Walking on Clouds #Skyscape

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Reebok. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Chambray Shirt: Old
Shorts: Gap (currently sold out)
Necklace: C/O My Capital Letters
Shoes: C/O Reebok Skyscape

If you've ever shopped with me, you know that I literally shop til I drop. Last weekend, my mom and I had a long day of shopping for my little sister's bridal shower, and for ourselves, too, of course. At the end of the day, I was very happy that I chose to wear my Reebok Skyscapes out the door that morning.

After being on my feet and walking around the mall and other stores for 12+ hours, my feet still didn't hurt after finally making it home. my mom probably would have hated it, but I definitely could have shopped for many more hours!

These hot pink numbers make me feel like I am literally walking on clouds. All. Day. Long. Weighing in at only 5 ounces, these shoes are created with the same foam material as my Victoria's Secret bras. When I was home my mom went to move my shoes to another room and freaked out when she picked up these shoes. Her exact words were, "What's wrong with your shoes?!" Actually mom, there's not a thing wrong with these beauties.

The material allows for optimum support, flexibility breathability, and comfort. They're also washable! It's been raining like crazy here and I managed to get mud all over them last week. I just took out the insoles and threw the shoes in the wash. Like magic, they came out clean and after air-drying over night, they were back on my feet the next day. Logically, the Reebok Skyscape is designed by the ever-beautiful Miranda Kerr.

I picked up my Skyscapes from Kohl's and after looking through the variety of colors, the pink kicks were added to my collection of shoes. While only features 4 color options, the Reebok website shows that you can get your Skyscapes in literally any print or color...even design your own! What color/print would you get yours in?

I'm surprised at how versatile the pink pair is. I've already worn them with skirts, skinny jeans, leggings, and of course the outfit pictured above (my personal favorite). I would love to hear how you would style these pink kicks!

Summer Trend: Flower Crown

Top: Old // Skirt: New York & Company // Flower Headband: New York & Company //
Sunglasses: New York & Company

Yesterday was my very last day of school! By some miracle, I have survived and am anxiously awaiting the posting of my grades. To celebrate, I broke out my new flower crown. Thanks for not judging me too hard, AU students...

This is a whole new concept for me as I would never describe myself as a hippy or flower child or anything related to the 60's. Actually, this whole outfit is a whole new world for me - I've never been a huge fan of maxi skirts, until now. While this is a very different look for my style, I definitely did my best to own it. How would you style a flower crown?

Something that kept me motivated during this year's finals was knowing I got to use cute school supplies like my BIC 4-Color Pen and this handy file decorated with a monogram decal from Bowtique by Jacqueline!

I met Jacqueline through the HerCampus Blogger Network and she sent me this cute decal! It took me the longest time to decide on what to decorate with it! I considered putting it on my Mac, other journals and folders but then decided on my homework file for some reason! I'm glad I chose this because it made studying and completing homework a little bit more fun! Jacqueline's Etsy shop is filled with adorable hair bows, decals, and glitter letters. They make the perfect (and affordable) gifts for friends or yourself!

We Set the Collegiate Standard

To say that I love my sorority and my Alpha Phi sisters would be an understatement. These women have surrounded me with love, support, and genuine friendship everyday the past four years. I hope that we are able to stay in contact because I have definitely found a few lifelong friends and future bridesmaids throughout this wild journey.

With graduation a week away, we decided to put on our caps and gowns early for a photo shoot so we wouldn't have to hunt each other down on the day of the ceremony. Our friend Spencer took many adorable photos and here are a few of my favorites from the shoot!

Also, be careful with the cap tosses, graduates. We may or may not have had a .gif worthy incident...

Because Alpha Phi and my sisters mean so much to me, I wanted to find a way to show my love for this organization as a post-grad. While I love my stitched letters, I feel like it would be weird to continue wearing them. A few weeks ago, I posted about my graduation wish list featuring a sorority ring from The Collegiate Standard. Well, they graciously sent me the beautiful ring! It was a beautiful surprise and I have worn it everyday since receiving it. This ring is a beautiful way to subtly show my Alpha Phi pride, even as a post-grad.

Nail Polish: Revlon Perfumerie in Pink Pineapple (currently buy 1 get one 50% off!)

Enter to win an surprise item from The Collegiate Standard! It could be a lavaliere, ring, or pendant! Can't wait to get your own jewelry? use code "GOGREEK10" for 10% off your order!

Are You a Trendspotter?

Top : Old
Jeans: C/O Macy's
Shoes: Keds

I'm not sure what's trending on your campus but here at Ashland University, Keds are taking over the soles of students everywhere (see what I did there? ;p). Keds have been around since 1916 and have been styled by some of my favorite celebrity icons. They were also featured in one of my favorite movies - Dirty Dancing! Who doesn't love Keds?! They represent a timeless American style.

When I heard about Keds' new Trendsetter Community, you bet I signed up! I love sharing my tips and opinions right here on the blog so why not share them with one of my favorite brands and other girls all over the country? Thankfully, membership is completely free and I can earn rewards for interacting in the group. I'm hoping the reward is a pair of kicks from the adorable Keds x Kate Spade NY collection!

I've been in the Trendsetter Community for about a week now and LOVE it! I hope that you'll join me in being a Keds Trendspotter, too! There are two groups - one for girls ages 13-17 and another for girls ages 18-24! All you need to do is fill out a quick questionnaire. If you are eligible to join, you'll be contacted by Keds' agency, Communispace for the next steps for membership! Apply soon because space is limited in the group! Are you the next trendspotter? Do you like Keds? What's your favorite pair?
