Sorority Recruitment: Preference

At my university, sorority recruitment lasts three days. My sorority chose to keep the first night's Victoria's Secret Pink theme consistent with the second night as well. Instead of black skinny jeans and blazers, our outfits were hot pink dresses and nude heels! Unfortunately, I was too busy to remember to take a picture! *Facepalm* So we'll skip ahead to the last and final night of recruitment, Preference.

Preference has always been my favorite night of sorority recruitment as it is the most intimate. At Preference, you really feel the sisterly bonds between the members. It's a very special night as the sorority typically has a beautiful ceremony they share with the potential new members. On my campus, the sorority women all wear black dresses for this special night.

Seniors! Can you find me?

I was completely and totally obsessed with the black dress I wore for this year's Preference Night! Have you heard of Rent the Runway? What about Hire Style?

Hire Style is a start up that rents designer gowns for 80-90% off retail prices! When Jessica, the owner, contacted me about borrowing a gown, I couldn't resist! I chose to borrow the Opening Ceremony Jersey Sweetheart dress and I was so sad when I had to return this gorgeous dress! The back was open (you can see me above, as I am the only one with an open back dress!) and the fit was beyond perfect.

With two of my favorites, Emma and Natalie!
I loved the neckline and the back of this dress so I chose to style my hair in a classic french twist to show off my favorite parts of the dress. The fabric had a texturized pattern that made it stretch to hug one's curves perfectly. I tried to get a close up photo but that didn't work out so well, haha!

The great thing about Hire Style is that with every item that is rented, Hire Style provides 8 meals for Americans who are struggling with hunger through Feeding America's Give a Meal Program. Look stylish and help an important cause at the same time! There's nothing better than that.

Now it's your chance to win a $40 Hire Style gift card so you can look fabulous for an exciting occasion in your life! Enter to win in the Rafflecopter below!

Sorority Recruitment: Night 1

While being M.I.A. for the past two weeks, I've been hanging out with my Alpha Phi sisters through recruitment and now getting to know our beautiful new members! Our theme for sorority recruitment last week was Alpha Phi's Secret and a play on Victoria's Secret merchandise. It was a lot of pink, a lot of little dogs, and a lot of fun!

In preparing for recruitment, there is always a lot of crafting to be done! Which is fine by me because I love crafting! I made all of our informational tri-boards and helped paint the Alpha Phi Lilly Pulitzer print onto our new 5 foot letters! Check out that tutorial here

Sorority Big & Little Sister Bow Giveaway!

Sorority recruitment is this weekend and I seriously can not wait! I am so excited to welcome home new members on Sunday. With all the busyness that comes with preparing for recruitment (so.much.crafting!) and add homework and my internships on top of that and I'm running on about 3 hours of sleep. #NoBigDeal #SleepIsForTheWeak

Over the past few weeks Panhellenic Council sponsored a few All-Greek meet and greets and interest nights. Above is my sorority's table! Isn't it gorgeous?! I love creating a great table for these type of events and making a great first impression. I made the triboards over the summer and the chevron is actually fabric (ain't no way I would free hand that!). I also painted the wood letters with the help of Christian's mom over the summer. The other side of the letters is covered in purple glitter and they are beautiful!

Besides our tabling, I realllllly wanted to tell you Darlings about these adorable Big & Little sister hair bows from Crafts for College! Over the summer, Taylor, the owner of this adorable Etsy shop, contacted me about collaborating so over the next few months, she'll be hosting a giveaway of a different item from her shop! Get excited! On her shop, you will find cute gifts for your sorority big, little, or other favorite sister in your chapter! She handmakes koozies, hair accessories, and even pillows!

First up, she is giving away a set of these adorable hair bows!! Enter to win yours in the Rafflecopter below!

College Life: Staying Safe On and Off Campus

Source
Being a college student and living right off of campus, safety is incredibly important to me. I can often be found studying late at night in the library or walking to a nearby party. Fortunately, my campus is in a very small town and is very safe, but it's always better to be safe than sorry, especially late at night.

Enter React Mobile.

I downloaded React Mobile after Robb, the founder, contacted me about trying out the new free app. React Mobile enhances your personal safety and turns your smartphone into a lifeline. Thankfully, I haven't had to use it yet but I enjoy having the peace of mind knowing that I can walk across campus and town and quickly report an emergency with my iPhone.

After being the victim of a hostage situation at his own college, Robb was inspired to create an app that would help protect students from crimes. This app transforms your smartphone into lifeline that gives you the ability to inform close contacts about your whereabouts, with just the push of a button. Users of this app can send an SOS alert with your GPS location to the authorities, emergency contacts, and even the option of posting it to your Facebook and Twitter. When the SOS alert is provoked, the app automatically dials 911.

Here are some of the awesome React Mobile features:
“Follow-Me” Feature - React Mobile, is a safety tool that you hope you never have to use. We differentiate ourselves by providing users with a safety enhancement feature for everyday use. Our premium “Follow-me” feature allows users to have friends and family track them in real-time. When a user is concerned for their safety but doesn’t want to escalate a potentially harmless situation, they can have their friends and family track them in real-time until they are safe.

International Support: Users also have the ability to choose which country they are visiting (or living in) from our settings tab and when they trigger an SOS alert they will be prompted to dial the appropriate emergency authority depending on where they are (ex: if they are in the UK the app will prompt a user to dial 112 not 911).

Social Network Integration: SOS alerts can be posted to Facebook and Twitter – In the event of an emergency we want users to have the capability to alert as many people as possible. We are differentiating ourselves from the competition by offering users the option to post their emergency alerts to Facebook and Twitter with a link to their location.

White Label/Custom Branding: We are differentiating ourselves from competitors by providing corporate and educational institutions with our custom branding opportunities. React Mobile’s Private Label service is a cost effective and easy to implement layer of protection that allows institutions to brand our application as their own. Our private label opportunities allow schools and corporations to focus on delivering a powerful risk mitigation tool to employees without having to go spend the resources and time developing a comprehensive solution like React on their own. Unlike other personal safety products such as pepper spray, rape whistles, guns, tasers, etc., React Mobile, is a safety product that cannot be used against a victim. All that is required
is a Internet signal, WiFi, or cell coverage to work. Our Private Label product is a cost effective way to take advantage of the safety benefits that technology can provide. React Mobile is a solution that is affordable for people to pick up independently or for corporations to sell as a benefit to others which helps to drive brand loyalty and employee morale. You can find out more about React Mobile’s Custom Branding Opportunities by following this link

React Mobile is Free - Unlike many of our competitors we are offering our product as a free app as we believe that it is a safety tool that everyone with a smartphone should have at their disposal. Unlike the competition, we impose no charge for the use of key features and we don’t require a users’ emergency contacts to have installed the app.

Automatic 911 prompt – Because it is critical to alert the authorities when you are in trouble, our app automatically prompts users to dial 911 if an alert is activated.

Visit React Mobile's website: http://www.reactmobile.com

Personally, I believe it is better to be safe than sorry. I hope I never have to activate this app but I am glad that I have in the case of an emergency.

What do you think of this safety app, Darlings?

With Love,
Ashliegh

What's Your Personality Type?

I don't know about you, but I love taking personality tests and the Myers Briggs test is no exception! I take it about once a year to see if I am consistent or even growing. Yesterday, my blog feed was filled with posts about personality types for Blogtember and figured I would join in, even if a day late!

The personality test they recommended for the challenge can be found here and I encourage you to take it. I thought it was pretty spot on! When I took the Myers Briggs test last year, I was an ENTJ and after taking the personality test today, I am still an ENTJ.

I Love NYC!

To begin my story, my grandmother, my cousin, and I have birthdays that are pretty close to one another. Since we had two milestone birthdays (a 21st and a 65th) we celebrated in New York City last weekend!

This was my first time to the Big Apple and I have be honest, I fell in love! I loved every second of being surrounded by the city's bright lights, big crowds, and loud traffic! There's something about this city that is simply magical and I know it's where I belong.

Favorite Hostess Gifts

While I catch up on homework and trying to get ahead this week, I have one of my favorite bloggers guest posting today! Meet Brenda, the blogger behind From Me, With Love! Today, she'll be discussing hostess gifts and showing gratitude!

--------------

Hello Ladies! I am Brenda, a mom to three, graphic designer with an Etsy store, and blogger at From Me, With Love. A big thanks to Ashliegh for letting me visit with you guys today!

After reading this article on the etiquette of writing a thank you note, I started thinking about how important it is to show our gratitude. After a family friend let us stay with them for the weekend in CA (all five of us!) I was super grateful they didn't kick us out after a day. Having 3 children, 4 and under, in their super clean and empty-nested home I wanted to make them something heartfelt that really showed our gratitude. My kids made these totes for them to collect vegetables and fruits from their beautiful garden. I wanted to share with you a few other favorite hostess gifts to really show our hosts a big THANK YOU!

Who wouldn't love any one of these? What are some of your go-to hostess gifts?

How to Wear Pearls

I'm having an absolute blast in NYC! I love this city and can't wait to tell you all about it! I am staying a day longer than originally planned due to some issues at the airport. i hope you enjoy this guest post from My Pacific Pearl about my favorite accessory - pearl!

----------------------

Pearls, necklaces or earrings, are must have items for every woman. They will never go out of style and will certainly add a touch of delicate femininity to your closet. Fear not, pearls are not designed to be worn only for special occasions. In fact, you can definitely wear them in many different situations with different kinds of styles. Check out these three looks that work beautifully with a classic pearl necklace.

Typical Work Day

This look is perfect for all the working women out there who want to look fabulous in the workplace. Since pastel colors are in this season, a peach pencil skirt would be a good fit for your everyday work look while also being trendy and appropriate for the workplace. Wearing a black top is always a good choice as it is a basic color and will definitely let the pearls stand out. The blazer has nice detailing on the bottom part with the golden buttons. This look will still look great even if you decide to take off the blazer and only wear the long sleeve shirt. As a final touch, add a pop of color! We added a royal blue bag and blue suede shoes.

A Date Night

This second outfit is incorporating the color mint green, which is also one of the color trends of the season. One cannot do without a short dress on a date night! This one has a simple and romantic design, made with lace material and has a nice cut out in the front; it is not too revealing but adds a little edge! We chose to pair it with white accessories to allow the dress to take center stage! Add a cardigan to stay warm at night, add the pearls and voilĂ , you look stunning for your date.

Casual Saturday

For your day off, vacations and weekends, this outfit is a perfect choice. It is comfortable and stylish at the same time. The mix of feminine and masculine elements is what makes this outfit stand out. Boyfriend jeans and booties are comfortable and easy to slip in on a lazy day but still have a touch of style. The feminine side would include the necklace as well as this nice creme shirt. Thanks to its light material and cut sleeves, it is a perfect shirt for transitioning into fall - just add a cardigan! To finish this look off, add a hat and sunglasses!

These are some outfits that you could wear with pearls. We hope you love them as much as we do. What is your favorite way to wear a pearl necklace?
