College Life: Save Money on Textbooks by Renting [Sponsored]

Like many college kids, I'm on a low budget and try to save money in as many places and ways as possible. I quickly learned how expensive textbooks can be. My first semester at college, I bought all my textbooks from the campus bookstore. That cost me about $600 for ONE semesters worth of textbooks. TEXTBOOKS! I quickly learned that there are cheaper and more budget friendly ways to order your textbooks. One of those ways to save money as a college kid is to rent books from CampusBookRentals!

CampusBookRental.com has some great perks when you rent textbooks from them. Not only are you saving 40-90% of of the bookstore prices, but you also get free shipping both ways and they donate to Operation Smile with each textbook that is rented! I know a lot of students who rent their books are nervous to highlight the textbooks as they study. When renting from CampusBookRentals there are no worries for studying because you can highlight in their textbooks!

Here
Already have a few semesters worth of books that the bookstore won't buyback? With CampusbookRentals new program, RentBack, you can rent your textbooks to other students and make 2-4x the money you'd make through buyback options! Sign me up!
How do you save money on your textbooks? Do you rent your textbooks?

With Love,
Ashliegh

How to Wear a White Vest

As many of you might know, I am a member of the HerCampus Blogger Network! I was accepted into the program back in May and have met so many fabulous ladies through the HCBN! Today I am hosting fellow HCBN blogger, Alexa, the blogger behind Bright and Sassy

--------------

It's officially Summer. This means that the days are hotter, and keeping to individual style can be tricky when clothes feel too hot and heavy. During these hot days, my white vest is my go-to piece.

Adding a vest allows for easy Summer layers that aren't too fussy. I pair it with my favorite little black dress for a more formal look, and, my favorite, pairing it with boyfriend jeans for a casual day-time look that I just wore walking around New York City. Here are some ways I like to wear my white vest. It's proven to be so versatile!

Like what you see? Follow me at brightandsassy.com for more style inspiration!

----------------

Doesn't she just have fabulous style!? Thanks so much for sharing, Alexa! Definitely visit Alexa's blog when you get a chance!

How would you rock a white vest, Darlings?!

Ashliegh

It seriously goes with everything and wins the Most Versatile Piece Award out of all the contents of my closet! You don't have one, you say? Well go find one! It's a styling lifesaver!

Do you have a chambray shirt? How do you style it?

Written In The Stars: Lilly Pulitzer's Print & Horoscope for Cancers

Here
Here
I love that the creative geniuses at Lilly Pulitzer created the zodiac print line! As a horoscope-reader, I especially love their print for the Cancer sign! Because Cancer is a water sign and our symbol is the crab, they did a great job putting together this print! Seriously, how adorable is the murfee scarf!? They also have prints for Aries, Taurus, and Gemini with the other prints being released in the zodiac order!

As for Lilly Pulitzer's horoscope for Cancers, I hope the coming year will be filled with new friendships! I'll be going into my senior year but that won't stop me from getting to know the new members that join Alpha Phi! For my senior year I hope to strengthen the bonds between the members of Alpha Phi's senior class, especially before we graduate! I want to be able to keep in touch with everyone!

What is your zodiac sign? How do you feel about Lilly Pulitzer's Written in the Stars line?

With Love,
Ashliegh

5 Tips for Moving to a New City

Darlings! You NEED to meet Rachael, one of my best friends and sorority sisters! We have made a lot of great memories these past few years in college and I'm so grateful to call this girl my friend! Rachael blogs at The Rachael Way where I have a guest post, too!

-----------

Hey everyone!  My name is Rachael and I blog over at The Rachael Way.  I blog about Carrie Bradhsaw, my love for nail polish, life, friendship and all things pink!  I'm super excited to be doing a blog swap with my girl Ashliegh!  We are sorority sisters and real life friends!

Ashliegh and I at our sorority Red Dress Gala!
Recently I just moved from Cleveland, Ohio (where I'm from), to Atlanta, Georgia for the summer! It's been a crazy adjustment moving from a small town to a big city where I didn't know anyone.  I thought it would be fun to give you five tips for moving to a new city!

1. Be overly friendly to everyone you meet

I have made a huge effort to be overly friendly to everyone I've met.  From the lady at the store to people at the gym, I try and be nice and talk to people (without being creepy!).  Who knows, you might meet a guy at Starbucks, like I did ;)

2. Enjoy time by yourself

My favorite part so far of being in ATL has been my ability to really love spending time by myself.  I have been able to work on my hobbies (like blogging and reading), have worked out a lot and had time to call friends every day.  I'm so grateful for this time for self reflection.  If you move to a new city and don't know a lot of people, it's okay to enjoy time by yourself and do the things YOU want to do!
Spending time by the pool is also my favorite thing to do!

3. Reach out!
I'm very lucky in that the first week that I got here I was able to get a job.  A coworker reached out to me and planned a fun girl date for us!  We went out to a local area, went shopping and had a delicious dinner!  I'm really grateful that she did that and I will always remember her kindness!

I also have family in Atlanta, besides the one I am staying with, so I reached out to them and got to spend the night at their house.  You probably know someone where you are moving, so definitely use those connections.

4. Join a gym/club

I decided that a good way to battle boredom would be working out!  I joined a gym, and also a church group.  This will hopefully help me meet people, lose some weight, etc. Gyms really aren't as expensive as you thought!

5. Take up a hobby

I've had so much time to watch my favorite shows!  My favorites are Dance Moms, The Bachelorette and Keeping Up with the Kardashians.  Whether your hobby is a new TV show, writing a book, practicing your makeup skills or crafting for your little, own it!  You've got all the time now!

Thanks for stopping by!  Be sure to check out my blog to see Ashliegh's post!

I'd love if you followed me on my adventures this summer and beyond!

Thanks for guest posting, Rachael! Make sure to check out her blog, Darlings!

With Love,
Ashliegh

7x7Remix Challenge: Outfits #3 & #4

For some reason my camera isn't doing so hot in picture taking lately! Apologies in advance for the creepy overcast on these pics! Either way, I love both of these outfits!

For the first outfit, I was a bit iffy on the layering two button ups over each other but I think it works...I'm not sure how I feel about it still. What do you Darlings think?

I LOVE the second outfit and can't wait to rock it when I return to school in August! This tribal skirt was probably my best $4 spent, ever! That's right. $4. Last summer Forever 21 had a wicked sale going on. At first, I didn't think I would get much use out of this skirt because it really wasn't my style at the time. Well, I have definitely grown to love it! I also wore it here!

What do you think of the 7x7 Remix Challenge so far?

With Love,
Ashliegh

Weekend in Pictures

Top: Hand-me-down
Dress: American Eagle
Shoe: Marshall's
Hat: Festival

This weekend was awesome and packed full of fun! To kick it off, Saturday morning Christian's mom and I went to the local Farmer's Market and picked up some strawberries and other food and then went to Surrey Brooke, an adorable garden and nursery! They had a children's garden that had a maze, so many other beautiful gardens, a frog pond and so many beautiful flowers! The gardens were absolutely gorgeous and I loved looking at the wide variety of the flowers, topiaries, trees, and garden furniture. While there, I got these beautiful shadow dancers (they're the pink flowers) and thyme to make a mini-garden!

Later in the afternoon, we all went out to a wine tasting at Loew Vineyards! This was my first time wine tasting and it was pretty fun! We tried 9 different wines and my favorite was their Strawberry Jubilee wine. It tasted just like a strawberry shortcake! The winery offers 17 wines that are made right on their 37 acre vineyard.

To finish out the day, Christian's mom and I made strawberry preserves and this delicious fruit tart using the strawberries we bought earlier at the Farmer's Market! I'll post the recipe later this week after we make it...again... It was SO good. Perfect amount of sweet and tart. Another great treat for the summer!

What did you do this weekend?!

With love,
Ashliegh

7x7 Remix Challenge: Outfit #2

Button up: Marshall's
Cardigan: J. Crew
Capris: Calvin Klein at Marshall's
Sandals: Kenneth Cole at Marshall's

Here is outfit #2 of the 7x7 Remix Challenge! I wore this to my summer class, Intro to Astronomy. It's a pretty fascinating class but science and math have never really been my thing so I have a hard time comprehending what is actually going on. Good news is the professor makes the class easy for the students. Our final project for the class is to journal 20 times about stargazing. It definitely gives me an excuse to stargaze with Christian! :p

Ashliegh

College Life: Making Your Dorm A Home [Sponsored]

I remember the day I drove onto campus with a minivan filled with  ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶I̶ ̶o̶w̶n̶e̶d̶   college essentials. I was greeted by the Movers and Shakers, members of Greek Life who help freshmen students move in. We walked up the five flights of stairs (tip #1 to living on campus: if you live on the second floor, don't you dare take the elevator. You will be shot dirty looks!). Out of breath and sweaty, we finally made it to my room. Room 519.

How glorious it looked! Hard dark gray berber-carpeted floors, white cinderblock walls, a small window, and bunk beds to complete the look. You might as well have assumed that I was back in the cabin of sixth grade camp. Yikes. Fortunately, I came prepared with flowers, posters, photos, and colorful bedding to make this place my home.

My Freshman Dorm Room
In just a few short months, thousands of students will be moving into their first dorm experience just like I did three years ago! (Good lawd, I'm getting old!) With the help of Residence Hall Linens, making that cinderblock room feel like home will be no problem! RHL offers a great value with their different bedding packages and I wish I would have known about them my freshman year!

Complete Campus Collection
The package with the most bang-for-your-buck is the Complete Campus Collection that includes 26 items, in any color, and all for $229! It includes sheets, pillow cases, pillows, a comforter, fleece throw, quilted mattress pad, egg crate pad (heck yes for extra comfort!), bath towels, a hamper, and so much more! This saves you so much money! I don't even want to think about how much my parents and I spent on stuff for my dorm room!

RHL even offers packages for allergen guards, shower packs (trust me, you NEED a shower caddie), even storageMy favorite part after moving into your dorm and laying out your bedsheets, is decorating! Decorative pillows, throw rugs, canvas art and wall decals all will make this space your space!

Use code SAVE20RHL at checkout to save an additional $20 on your bedding value pack!

Are you moving into the college dorm scene this fall? How are you going to decorate your room?!

3 Superman: Man of Steel Inspired Outfits

Darlings, may I introduce to you Alyssa who blogs at My Life's a Cup of Cake! I met Alyssa through the HerCampus Blogger Network and love her blog! She has been putting together fashion sets for each of the Disney Princesses and they are adorable! Today, Alyssa will be sharing fashion sets for the upcoming movie premiere of Man of Steel!

-----------

Hello readers! My name is Alyssa from My Life’s a Cup ofCake. I am a 22-year-old chemistry student who loves art, animals, books, bows, and monograms. I am super girly and I am obsessed with making fashion sets on Polyvore. Speaking of Polyvore, since the new Superman movie, Man of Steel, is coming out on June 14, I made some inspired fashion sets for you guys! So, let’s get started..

The first outfit I put together is one that I think would be perfect to wear to see the movie. I love the look of skinny jeans so I paired a dark blue pair with a front-tying Superman logo tee. I paired the outfit with some red converse, which I think go perfectly with the casual outfit. I kept the accessories at a minimum with silver bangles and blue stud earrings.

For the Superman-inspired look, I didn’t want to get too literal. I definitely wanted it to be stylish, yet still an inspired look. Once again, I went with dark skinny jeans. They can be dressed up or down. I added a sheer-ish navy tank top to add a girly touch. A red fly away cardigan was added to imitate Superman’s red cape. Superman also wears red boots, so instead of flat lace-up boots, I went with red ankle booties with a fierce heel. To add some Superman flare without being too literal, I added an “S” symbol crystal necklace. The other accessories include crystal bangles and silver bangles to layer and sapphire stud earrings.

No Superman fashion set would be complete without a Clark Kent inspired look. This look was inspired by a tan suited Clark Kent. I chose some tan skinny trousers and paired them with a cream pleated top. My favorite part of the outfit is the lace oxfords. I was looking for dark brown women’s oxfords, since it is a “manly” look, but thought these were so perfect for an inspired look. I added some dark dangly pearl earrings and a bow bracelet. I thought the bracelet was perfect instead of being so literal with an actual bow tie or regular tie. Finally, the iconic “nerd” glasses tie the entire look together.

I hope you enjoyed these Superman-inspired looks. I had so much fun making all of them for you guys!  Check out my blog for more Polyvore fashion sets- including my Disney Princess Collection. I also want to thank Ashliegh for choosing me as a guest blogger today!
------------

Thank you so much, Alyssa, for sharing your Superman-inspired looks! I can't wait to pull an outfit together for this weekend's premiere of Man of Steel!

Are you going to see Man of Steel this weekend, Darlings? I can't wait to see it!

With Love,
Ashliegh

Weekend Shenanigans

This weekend I had a lot of fun and to kick it off, I went to the Wounded Warriors Festival in The Plains, VA with Christian! We had a lot of fun enjoying the festival environment, looking at all the vendor products, and the free beer and wine tasting! Wait, did they say "free beer and wine?!" yeah, sign us up!

While at the festival, Christian and I decided to buy some hats! We are going to the beach in July so they'll be perfect for the summer and the beach! I got this adorable floppy straw hat that has a big black bow wrapped around the brim! So classy and adorable! Christian got this white straw fedora that has a red and navy blue ribbon wrapped around the brim. Very preppy!

How about that Corvette!? Wouldn't you just LOVE to ride around in that this summer?!

So you know how I said I was going to do a No-Spend June? Well, I "accidentally" gave in. Remember those beautiful Michael Kors white skinny jeans that I wore here and here? Well, on Friday,  I put them on no problem. And then I sat down. RIIIIIIIIIPPPPPP. OH.MY.GOD.

The jeans ripped right now the back seam! UHM. WHAT. Didn't I pay for a good quality jean?! I've never ripped a pair of jeans like that before! Since I didn't even have the chance to wash them I took them back to Marshall's. They gave me $42 in store credit so I got a new pair of white capris, this time Calvin Klein brand. Don't fail me now, Calvin! While at Marshall's, I also got an adorable chambray shirt for $7. SEVEN. DOLLARS. I also got a pair of these adorable Kenneth Cole Reaction studded sandals! After the store credit was applied, I only had to pay $13! What a steal! So now, I can begin my No-Spend June.

What did you do this weekend?!

With Love,
Ashliegh
