I've been feeling a little down this week and I always find that quotes pick me up. Here are some of my favorites:

Be who you were created to be, and you will set the world on fire. - St. Catherine of Sienna

No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up.

Stop watering the weeds in your life and start watering the flowers.

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die; where you invest your love, you invest your life. - Mumford & Sons

What is your favorite quote?

11 Fun Facts About Me

11 Facts About Me
1. Last summer I studied abroad in Costa Rica to learn Spanish! One of the single most incredible experiences of my life!

2. In high school I was a huge band geek! I played flute, oboe, and trumpet, while also serving as a majorette during football season!

3. I love volunteering with Habitat For Humanity. The last two spring breaks have been spent in Georgia building homes and I am excited to spend my third spring break there! Habitat for Humanity is also my pageant platform! I also made a mini-documentary for the Collegiate Challenge program that was featured at the organization's annual International Youth Conference. You can view it here.

Doin' work! Working on the roof is my favorite part of building Habitat Houses!

4. Along the lines of documentary work, I participated in Mary Kay's Inspiring Stories program. This program brought 15 women from all over the country together in Las Vegas to create three documentaries regarding domestic violence. I was placed on Team Give Joy and you can view our documentary here. My team worked with Alexa Vega (remember Spy Kids!?) as our voice-over.

5. Speaking of Mary Kay, I am also a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant! The lipglosses and Ultimate mascara are my personal favorites. Wanna order or join my team? Email me, or check out my website here.

6. I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit - I created my first business at age 14 creating boutonnieres, corsages, and wedding bouquets! Even before then I tried selling friends homemade lipglosses in the 2nd grade!
7. I compete in the Miss America Organization. Pageants have helped me develop my speaking and interview skills, stage presence, and have given me motivation to live a healthy lifestyle while also providing hundreds of dollars for my education!

8. I started competing in pageants at age 15 at a hometown festival pageant. I used to be INCREDIBLY shy and quiet and terrified of speaking in public. During the onstage portion I froze during my question and it was a minute and thirty seconds of of the loudest silence I've ever experienced. Obviously, I didn't take home the crown. However....

9. In 2009 I served as the Olde Canal Days Festival Queen! It took me three tries, but eventually I did win. During my year of service, my court and I completed over 200 hours of community service, rode in more parades than Micky Mouse, and made so many new friends!

Riding all the carnival rides post-crowning moment

10. I lead Disney World's Electro-Light Parade as a majorette with my band in high school!

11. I took a year off after high school before attending college!

Leopard Scarf

Sweater: Old
Dress: Urbanog.com
Tights: Old
Boots: Bandolino
Scarf: Amazon (here)

I have been DYING to wear skirts and dresses since being reunited with my wardrobe this past weekend but the weather just has not allowed that to happen. I CAN'T WAIT for warm spring weather! Forever 21 is having an extra 50% off their sale items through Monday and I am excited for the new items I purchased! Like...10 clothing items for $50. What?! Most of them are cold weather appropriate which is good since Ohio is just finally entering winter.

Monogram Fun

Tee: Old
Blazer: Macy's
Pants: J.Crew
Heels: Old
Monogram Bracelet: Amazon (here)

I'm wearing 2 (TWO?!), new items today - this monogram bracelet and the purple J.Crew pants. These are my very first J.Crew purchase and I can't be more thrilled! They're perfect. I wouldn't have got them had it not been for their crazy sale they were having a few weeks ago!

I love LOVE love monograms and I wish everything I owned had a monogram on it! I received an Amazon gift card for Christmas and when I saw this beauty on there and for $30 (yes, you heard me right!), I instantly knew it was meant to be.

Have you made any "first time" purchases recently?

Wore this to run some errands in. I like how the necklace jazzes up an otherwise simple and comfortable outfit!

The first few days of class are always so awkward. The professors go over their syllabus, force the students to do cheesy introductions, and attempt to squeeze in a quick lesson. It seems every first class of the semester, I always embarrass myself, not on purpose, I'm just that awkward quiet student.

Anyways, the professor for my Short Story class had us write up a paragraph about ourselves that captures our "essence" without actually stating facts. Uh...what?!
Anyways, as all the English majors quickly got to work, I just sat there and tried to figure out what she's asking me to do. I eventually scribbled something down and then the professor calls me out, "Ashliegh, you look uncomfortable in this class. You have a deer-in-headlights look in your eyes." The whole class laughs (I know many of my fellow colleagues). Oy.

Also, make sure to check out Ada's blog, Elegance Personified! She chose one of my looks from last week to be featured on her recent Week's Best Looks post! Thank you so much for featuring me, Ada!!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Ashliegh

First Day of Classes!

Blazer: Macy's
Top: Express
Jeans: Express
Heels: Old
Belt: Old
Bracelet: Gift

Sorry for being M.I.A. everyone! Yesterday was the first day of classes and was ridiculously busy. I went from class, straight to work, straight to my night class and then to a meeting for my sorority. I barely had time to breath!

I find myself wearing the same items, over and over again. How do you organize your clothes so this doesn't happen?

Friday Finds

I'm just rocking an old sorority bid day tee shirt and skinny jeans today, so I figured I would share a few items that I would like to add to my own collection with you! I'm surprised at my self for not already owning these must-have basic items!

I didn't really mean to create an outfit, but, I guess I kinda did cause I would totally wear all these items together! I set up my polyvore account today - what an interesting and fun program! Obviously I'm new at this so don't laugh too hard at my attempt at graphic designing.

1. Chambray Shirt - The shirt of 2012. The chambray shirt was EVERYWHERE! Why on earth have I not picked up one of these yet considering they literally go with everything - work, school, or play!

2. Maroon Tights - in general, I just need more tights. I only own a pair of gray so I should make the investment into black tights for sure and I think maroon tights would be fun to have around!

3. Leopard Heels - I used to have a pair but they broke (so sad :[ ). I wore them all the time and I miss them.

4. Leather Skirt - because everyone needs a little leather in their wardrobe. Sometimes, you just wanna feel like a badass.

5. Boucle Jacket - So feminine with its clean lines and pretty texture. Inspired by Coco Chanel herself, a boucle jacket is the perfect addition to any wardrobe to make you feel a little richer.

What items do you want to add to your closet?

Stripes on Stripes

I love the uniqueness of this cardigan! The stripes go vertical in the back!

Button Up: Burlington Coat Factory
Cardigan: Marshall's
Skirt: Charlotte Russe
Necklace: ANCIENT! (Literally, I bought it in the 6th grade for $1.50 at JC Penny. Best $1.50 ever spent!!)
Belt: Old (I call this knot the bow knot)
Shoes: Sperry's
Watch: Fossil
Bracelets: Gifts from  my Grandma

Ok, first of all, I'm OBSESSED with today's outfit. It's so comfortable and I feel so pretty! I wasn't sure that the stripes on stripes would work when I was putting the outfit together last night but I LOVE the outcome!

Polka Dot Denim + Statement Necklace

Cardigan: Marshall's
Polka Dot Button Up (Underneath): Body Central
Jeans: OLD (and by old, I mean ancient! I've had these babies since high school!)
Necklace: Charlotte Russe (here
Pink Bracelet: Charlotte Russe
Watch: Fossil
Pearl Bracelets: It's actually my usual pearl necklace strung around my wrist twice!
Shoes: OLD

I saw this polka dot top, and instantly fell in love with it! It was the last one in the clearance section AND IN MY SIZE!! I knew it was meant to be. It's a sleeveless top that is going to be perfect in the summer but I couldn't wait so I winterized it. I would have never thought to do that before Pinterest. What the heck did we wear, craft, bake before Pinterest?!

Also, Charlotte Russe is having a 2 for $10 sale on their jewelry. Say WHAT?! So I also picked up this necklace which I'll probably wear every day for the next week; it's so darn cute!

Black, Brown & Polka Dots

Blazer: Old
Top: Old
Jeans: American Eagle
Boots: Bandolino
Necklace: Charlotte Russe (here)

Officially one week until classes start back up! I'm fairly excited for the courses I'm taking this upcoming semester:

Short Story
African Literature
Organizational Behavior
Small Group Communication
Communication Theory and Research

This semester is going to be a busy one managing classes, Alpha Phi activities, a part-time job, my Mary Kay business, possibly an internship, and training for a pageant in February (I have been out of the pageant system for far too long!).

I use my Mary Kay planner to schedule my days and to-do lists. I use highlighters to block out times for certain activities. I really want to get a Lilly Pulitzer Planner, they just make staying organized look so fun! Maybe for senior year I'll get one.

How do you manage your time?

Ashliegh

Coat: Wilson Leather/Guess (here)
Scarf: Macy's (here)
Jeans: American Eagle
Boots: Bandolino

Ok, you know you're having a bad style day when you try to use your cup of hot chocolate to make your outfit look cooler. How hipster of me.

In other news, pull out your wallets and prepare to do some major damage to your bank accounts, Darlings; Lilly Pulitzer is hosting their New Year Cheers Sale! God Bless America, why don't I have a money tree in the backyard?!

Colorblock.

Cardigan: Marshall's (similar)
Sweater: Express (similar)
Jeans: Charlotte Russe (similar)
Heels: Burlington Coat Factory (similar)
Watch: Fossil/Macy's (here)

2012 Me would not wear this outfit, she would say "It's too much going on, yadda yadda yadda." Booorring.
2013 Me LOVES this outfit. Color blocking was huge in 2012 and I'm hoping that I didn't catch this trend too late!

I love my red jeans but it wasn't always that way.
In the 6th grade I received my first pair of red jeans. They were awesome. They were bright red flares and they had glitter in the fabric. The kids at school, however, were not fans. Kids are evil beings.
Last year, when colored denim came back into style I was very hesitant to pick up a pair but I did anyways and rocked them around campus.
Rocking colored denim is a great confidence booster, don't you think?

What was your favorite trend in 2012?

Ashliegh
