Summer Trend: How to Wear Tribal Print

Elizabeth is the adorable fashion blogger behind Emphatically Elle. We met through the Her Campus Blogger Network, of course (that seems to be where I get all my fabulous blogging friends)! Her blog just received a makeover recently, that she did herself! Make sure to go check it out!

Hello, everyone! It's Elizabeth from Emphatically Elle. Lately, I've been noticing a spiking trend in tribal print everything, from bodycon skirts to backpacks to bathing suits. It's a great way to get in the spirit of summer with the hot days approaching (and already here for many of you). From southwestern inspired to a more native feel, the possibilities are nearly endless (and many brands have been capitalizing on this Ke$ha themed movement).

Some styling tips:

1. Add pops here and there. As with any bold print, it is to be used sparingly to add color or texture to an outfit. Certainly don't go all over tribal at the risk of looking costumey or, well, insane. Pair a tribal skirt with a solid blouse or top, or add festive shoes to an otherwise ho-hum outfit.

2. Monotone works. Pairing a brightly colored tribal print skirt or bag with a muted color palette on the rest of your body will give you a polished, put together look for a more toned down version of the trend.

3. Take it up a notch with allover printed pants or leggings underneath a muted tunic. This look is more difficult to pull off, the fashion equivalent to playing Guitar Hero on Expert mode. For those who are intimidated, or who prefer a more subtle approach, adding a printed purse or backpack, scarf, or shoes to an ensemble is a great way to get in on the action without worrying about looking too ridiculous.

4. As with anything, be yourself. Find a fun and unique way to showcase the look and really play up your assets. Many have even made DIY projects out of the trend with bleach or fabric painted shorts, shirts, or shoes. Whatever inspires you, run with it, but most of all, have fun! An outfit only works if you're comfortable in it.

How would you wear tribal print, darlings?!

  5. TBH I won't wear it at all. This is probably something my daughter would definitely be interested in though. She says I have no sense of fashion. :)

  6. I couldn't do those pants, I'm guessing, but other than that I could those off. And I have almost no tribal factor to my vibe.
