Today Medge from The Voguish Diaries will be giving us a quick lesson on how to wear a monochromatic outfit today! Medge has a really great sense of style and a killer collection of heels! Check out her style tips below!
I am a lover of all things pastel, especially when it comes to my wardrobe. A pastel is always a nice way to add a pop of colour to an outfit, but why not wear colour from head to toe? Since we're in the middle of summer, I thought it would be nice to do a monochrome outfit with a minty green. When done correctly, a monochromatic look can make for a killer outfit.
Rule #1 - Different Shades - It's important to pick different shades of the same colour. You want it to 'go' together rather than 'match' perfectly. If you are going to have 2 pieces the same shade, they must be the exact same colour. There should also be a third shade introduced. So unless it's black or white, mix up the shades. It will look much more chic.
Rule #2 - Contrast - This rule sort of compliments Rule #1. There has to be a contrast in the outfit. That can be a shade of the same colour, but significantly lighter or darker. I'd even say it's okay for it to be a black, white or grey piece. Jewelry and accessories can definitely play into this as well - the outfit can be all one tone, but then the shoes and jewlery can be a different from the clothes, but the same as each other (like blue pumps and a statement blue necklace)
Rule #3 - Textures - Don't be afraid to play with textures. For instance, if your colour of choice is blue, add a denim jacket. If you're colour is on the lighter side, add a white blazer (like I did). And the same applies to darker shades and black.
So these are just some of my basic rules for a monochrome look. The most important rule above all rules: you must be confident. It always adds that extra bit of polish and style to an outfit.
